The Village of LaGrange, Ohio

Welcome to LaGrange, Ohio
By Mr. Gary Kincannon,  President of LaGrange Village Council

LaGrange Village SquareLOCATION:  Welcome to LaGrange, Ohio, a growing, rural community located in LaGrange Township in Lorain County.  Just 10 miles south of Elyria, and about 35 miles southwest of Cleveland, Ohio, LaGrange has seen a growth spurt because of its proximity to Cleveland and Elyria and its location six miles south of the I-480 spur (U.S. Route 20).  LaGrange is approximately 20 minutes from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, and 35 minutes from downtown Cleveland.  Interstate 71 is located 20 minutes south (via State Route 301) or east (via State Route 303).

EDUCATION: LaGrange is home to the Keystone High School and Keystone Middle School Wildcats. The new Keystone High School opened in 2006 on Opportunity Way in LaGrange with the Middle School moving into the old high school on Liberty Street. This is an exciting time for the Keystone community. Visit their web page at The "Friends of LaGrange Public Library" has worked diligently with the Elyria Public Library to open our library facility in the old "Vet’s Hall" building in Veteran’s Park. Long-range plans to construct a new, permanent structure are in the early stages but State budget constrictions will delay this project. Local “Post Secondary” opportunities include Lorain County Community College, which is 15 miles north of town, and Oberlin College, only 10 miles away.

ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES:  LaGrange has many economic incentives available within our commercial and industrial areas.  “Opportunity Way”, the road to the new Keystone High School, travels through 40 acres of Transitional Use Zoning in the village.  Three new businesses have purchased land in the Business Park and only a few lots remain.  There is new commercial square footage available, Community Reinvestment Areas in the central business district, as well as incentives for the lots in “Commerce Drive” industrial park. Visit the "Community Improvement Corporation" page for more details. One of our tenants will be Community Healthcare Partners. Click here to view the CHP LaGrange information.

RECREATION: Opportunities abound with the development of a 90-acre community park underway and the Lorain County Metro parks nearby. A map of the new park is located here. 1800 feet of park road, the main parking lot, three shelters and five baseball/softball diamonds are complete. Also completed are two lakes and seven soccer fields. A soccer practice area was created and a storage building with restrooms has been constructed nearby. The new concession stand in the middle of the softball/baseball complex is doing a brisk business. Several miles of walking trails have also been completed to provide exercise for all age-groups. "Lions Park" will continue to serve the village as a recreation center along with the tennis and basketball courts in Veteran’s Park.

HOUSING:  Housing ranges from "century homes" to new housing developments in all price categories.  The latest development is "Durham Ridge" being constructed in conjunction with the "Grey Hawk" golf course.  Lots are also available in the "Union Station" housing development and "LaGrange Junction" is in the planning stages at the end of Dill Court. Apartments, duplexes, condominiums and single family homes are all available throughout the Village.

INFRASTRUCTURE: The Village of LaGrange has completed the construction of a new, $2.3 million wastewater disposal plant. This brings the Village in line with Environmental Protection Agency guidelines and increases our capacity for future growth.

New Fire StationThe village has also constructed a new water tower located between Factory Street and North Main Street, behind the Methodist Church and the new fire station. Click Here to View Old Tower Demolition. Environmental Protection Agency regulations pertaining to storage have now been met and water pressure has increased to desirable levels.

The Village has been on an aggressive schedule to resurface streets and replace old water lines simultaneously. Most of the older streets and water lines in town have been completed. Dill Court will be resurfaced in conjunction with the new development at the end of that street. Keywood, Commerce Drive West and the entrance of U.S. Grant Street are next in line for improvements.

SO WELCOME TO LAGRANGE, OHIO...Many challenges await us, but we will strive to retain the rural flavor of our community.  After all "LaGrange" means "The Farm" in French.  If you have any questions or suggestions for Village Officials, contact us at
